Kilrush, Co. Clare

 Moneypoint Generating Station at Kilrush, Co. Clare is the largest
power station in Ireland having 3 generating sets each capable
of producing 300MW. Imported coal is used and the installation
includes extensive facilities for handling bulk coal and ash.

From 2005–2008 the station underwent a major Environmental
Retrofit to install scrublers to the existing plant; and
simultaneously replace and upgrade numerous elements of the
old plant. L&M Keating Ltd. were heavily involved in this project,
carrying out numerous building and civil engineering elements of
the work. A feature of this activity was the close coordination
involved, working with numerous other contractors of many
nationalities on a very concentrated site, while the existing
generating station remained in service.

Health and Safety issues were paramount, and new standards
were set and achieved to ensure this project was completed
safely and on programme.

Works carried out by L&M Keating Ltd.:

UREA Plant
Ground slab with wall, constructed as watertight pit, 1x
Foundation for reactor building (steel carcass + cladding), 2x
Foundations for reactors, 2x Foundations for reactor feed tanks,
2x Foundation for urea dissolver tanks, 4 x Foundation for pumps
(foundation), 1x Control & Instrumentation Building, Drain pit and
drain gutters, 2x external pumps foundations

Batching Plant
1x C & I Building, 1x Foundation for Industrial water tank, 2 x
FGD product storage silos, 1x Foundation batching plant with
separate foundation for solid mixers, 2x Burnt lime silos, 2 x
Foundation for hydration (blow down) water tanks, Foundation
for conveyors and towers

Roadworks
Extension of existing road with pathways, paving around new
installation

Drainage Works
Flue Gas De-sulpharisation, Selective Catholitic Reduction

Auxiliary power Supply – Transformers (3 units)
Foundation for transformers including Oil pits, Foundation for
sprinkler, Cable Trenches to existing, Trenches (Transformer
Area), Fire blast walls, Brickwork walls, Fencing with Gates,
Drainage

Control Room Replacement
Phased reconstruction of Main Station Control Room

By Product Disposal
Construction of Byproduct disposal area – lined earthwork bund.
Commencing and operation of byproduct landfill area

Temporary Site Accommodation
Provision and servicing of approximately 10,000 sq ft of
temporary site accommodation and associated services for
varied contractors.
