| KILKEE COASTAL OUTFALL, Kilkee, Co. Clare. |
Treated sewage from the seaside resort of Kilkee, Co Clare is pumped to a point about 1 mile south of the town and discharged over cliffs about 250 ft high. During periods of strong onshore winds spray from the discharge used to be blown back up over the cliff top and onto the land behind. The solution was to bore a new 300mm diameter outfall from the top of the cliff to exit at the low water mark. L&M Keating Ltd. carried out this work for Clare County Council, which included a digital survey of the cliff face, planning the trajectory of the drill (allowing for inevitable droop), and surveying the completed bore both internally and externally, using rock climbing techniques. |
