| MAYO BRIDGE REHABILITATION CONTRACT, Co. Mayo. |
The project comprised of repair works to 3 No. National Secondary Road bridges in Co. Mayo. Work on each bridge was phased to maintain through traffic for the duration of the project. Programming and resource allocation also took into account exceptional weather conditions including freezing temperatures and flooded river conditions. Programming was carried out with reference to 5-day forecasts and working time maximised by temporary coverings, night time and weekend working. Such conditions added considerably to the complexity of the project. Ennisdrum Bridge carries the N59 Westport to Bangor Road over the Owenmore River. The three span concrete bridge is in a semi-rural location providing sole access to the South of the town. The works carried out comprised of: • Demolition and removal of the existing parapets, footway construction and construction of new reinforced concrete plinths. • In-water scaffolding platforms • Concrete repair works to bridge deck using fast cure materials in advance of waterproofing and bridge joint installation •Installation of buried bridge joints •Re-waterproofing of the bridge deck slab and resurfacing • Structural concrete & reinforcement repairs to soffit, piers & abutments • Removal of staining & loose debris by specialist water jetting. • Fairing coat & anti-carbonation coating painted to all elements of exposed concrete bridge deck. • Installation of aluminium bridge parapet • Installation of drainage gullies and outfalls • Line marking, stud installation and landscaping Balla Bridge carries the busy N60 Castlebar to Balla Road over a small river on the outskirts of the town. The works comprised of: • Demolition and removal of existing masonry parapets, footway and road construction • Vegetation removal • Construction of new masonry parapets to NRA containment specification complete with coping stones using traditional techniques • Minor concrete repair work to bridge deck using fast cure materials in advance of waterproofing • Re-waterproofing of the bridge deck slab • Installation of drainage and outfalls • Line marking, stud installation and landscaping Ballylahan Bridge carries the N58 Strade to Foxford Road over the River Moy. The bridge is in a rural location on the outskirts of Foxford Village. It is a five span composite prestressed beam and reinforced concrete slab deck supported on reinforced concrete abutments and piers. This bridge was particularly complex from an environmental and access viewpoint as it spans the internationally renowned Moy fishing river. Works were further hampered as the water level responded quickly to rainfall. To access the bridge and protect the watercourse from debris and contaminates we mobilised a floating platforms under each span as required together with in-water scaffold. The works comprised of: • Removal of existing concrete footpath and road construction • Concrete repair works to bridge deck using fast cure materials in advance of waterproofing and joint • Installation of composite drainage kerbs including construction of new footpath • Repair and high pressure cleaning of aluminium bridge parapet • Installation of bridge joints • Re-waterproofing of the bridge deck and resurfacing. • High pressure washing of soffit and parapet • Structural concrete & reinforcement repair works to edge beam, soffit, piers & abutments. • Fairing coat & anti carbonation coating painted to all elements of exposed concrete bridge deck. • Vegetation removal Installation of drainage, gullies and outfalls • Line marking, stud installation and landscaping |
