| RINGSEND BASIN QUAY REPAIR WORKS Ringsend, Dublin City Centre |
This project involved the re-facing of approximately 300 lin metres of masonry quay wall with reinforced concrete and dredging works. The site is located in Dublin city centre on the Grand Canal system. Concreting was carried out underwater as it was not feasible to drop the water level in the harbour. Fixings were drilled into the old masonry wall by divers, and a shutter placed with a porous face to allow dissipation of excess moisture when concreting underwater. All work was carried out from floating plant due to the lack of access on the quay perimeter. Dredging work involved dredging ahead of wall construction to allow the concrete face reach the design depth, and approximately 4,000m3 of maintenance dredging was also carried out. All dredged material was transported to the quay by hopper barge and stockpiled and allowed dewater before disposal to landfill. Upon completion of the works new quay furniture was fitted. |
