| SHANNON NAVIGATION – KILLALOE CANAL FLOW CONTROL GATE, MOORINGS AND ANCILLARY WORK Co. Clare |
The principal element of this work involved the construction of a new reinforced concrete lock structure and the design and installation of a hydraulic flow control gates and associated control system. To construct the new reinforced concrete chamber a substantial coffer dam was constructed in the existing canal, which is 18m wide. The completed structure is clad in stonework to match the existing canal. Steel lock gates and swinging mechanism were constructed off site and installed before re watering the works. The electrical, hydraulic and control system were contractor designed, including CE Marking the completed mechanism. The ancillary works included the installation of a 400m long sheet pile quay and timber promenade, providing services to new moorings and general landscaping the amenity area. |
