This project involved the complete restoration of St. Senans Roman Catholic Church, Kilrush, Co. Clare. Aspects of the project which were of particular significance included: The removal of the existing ground floor, while protecting existing tombs and vaults. The re-installation of the ground floor incorporating underfloor heating throughout. New floor tiling to match existing 19th tiling. Restoration and re-glazing of all stained and leaded glass windows. The reconstruction of the stonework in the Rose window in the North Gable. The conservation of wall mosaic. The reassembly and restoration of the High Altar. The extension of the existing Sanctuary floor including the rearrangement of existing Altar Rails, Sanctuary Marble and the extension of the floor mosaic. The hand painted stenciled plaster ceilings were also restored, revitalising the unique character of the building. New services were installed throughout while maintaining the character of the building. Original doors were restored to original condition by our own craftsmen on site The external fabric of the building was also given a new lease of life with works including: Re-roofing using natural slate. The complete reconstruction of parapet guttering. The re-pointing of stonework. The careful and discrete extension of ancillary buildings to incorporate new toilets and offices. The reinstatement of simple landscaping including the restoration of wrought Iron Gates and Railings. Restoration of the existing roof structure. Insulation and weathering of the existing roof. L&M Keating Ltd continuously liaised with the conservation architect and implemented the directions of the Clare Heritage Officer and Project Archaeologist. |
