This project involved the refurbishment of a derelict church in Kilrush and its conversion into a state of the art performance venue for Comhaltas Ceol Toiri Eireann. The works involved construction of an internal mezzanine floor with toilet kitchenette accommodation; construction of a new stage; general refurbishments of the existing building together with associated site works and drainage including works outside the boundary of the site at Grace Street. Original windows, stairs and internal joinery were restored on site by our own craftsmen. In particular works carried out included: Repairs to existing roofs. New concrete floors at ground level. Full insulation of walls, ceilings and roof spaces. Installation of new heating system. New electrical wiring throughout. Full fitout of toilets. Alteration to existing openings to comply with disability access requirements. The installation of new external areas. The cleaning down and restoration of external and internal stonework. The restoration and re-glazing of existing antique stained glass windows. The stone work, internally and externally was raked and re-pointed using hydraulic lime. |
