Youghal Quay Wall Repair

This 8 week contract involved repairs and renovation to approximately 600m2 of harbour walls at Youghal, Co Cork. The workscope included removal of organic matter from stonework, removal of loose and inadequate masonry joints and re-pointing, and restoration of missing and damaged masonry stonework. Extensive grouting with hydraulic lime grout was carried out to fill voids in the quay wall and quay infill. New local sawn sandstone blocks were sourced as make up stone. All pointing was carried out with natural hydraulic lime mortar, with a special admixture for used in immersed locations. Some concrete deck was also replaced with a new reinforced concrete surface. |
